On September 2, 2015 at about 2:00PM, OSP Troopers and emergency personnel responded to the report of single vehicle crash on Highway 26 near milepost 36 (just east of the Washington/Tillamook County line).

Upon arrival emergency personnel discovered a 1995 Ford Explorer about 20 feet off the roadway. The driver, Henri P STEPHENSON, age 66, of Ocean Park, Washington was trapped in the vehicle. Emergency personnel extricated STEPHENSON from his vehicle and he was taken by air ambulance to Oregon Health and Science University for serious injuries.

Preliminary information indicates STEPHENSON had been traveling eastbound on Highway 26 when he drifted off the roadway, crashing through thick vegetation before coming to rest off the roadway. It is estimated STEPHENSON was trapped in his vehicle for at least an hour before a passing motorist spotted the his vehicle. It is believed fatigue is the contributing factor in the crash.

The investigation is continuing and more information will be released when it is available.
