On September 3, 2015 at about 2PM, OSP Troopers and emergency personnel responded to the report of a collision involving a school bus and a pickup on Highway 20 near milepost 79. (East of Santiam Junction near Hogg Rock).
According to Sergeant Dave Pond, a 1993 Chevrolet Pickup was traveling westbound on Highway 20 when it crossed the center line and struck an eastbound school bus. The Chevrolet came to a rest in the westbound ditch after the impact.
Upon emergency crews arriving on scene the driver of the Chevrolet, Camille NELSON, age 32, of Wilsonville was deceased. The school bus had a total of 43 members of Sheldon High School Soccer Tea, including the driver, coaches and students. The only injuries reported were minor to a couple occupants. The Sisters School District sent a school bus and transported the students to Sisters Middle School were counselors were made available.
Highway 20 was closed for several hours due to the wreckage and the investigation. The roads were wet at the time of the crash which is still being investigated. OSP was assisted by the Oregon Department of Transportation, Black Butte Police Department, and the Camp Sherman Fire Department.
This is an ongoing investigation and more information will be released as it becomes available.
