Astoria Teen Loses Life In Crash On Highway 202 - Clatsop County (Photo)

On September 19, 2015 at about 11:20AM, OSP Troopers responded to the report of a two vehicle crash on Highway 202 near milepost 7 (east of Astoria).

Preliminary information indicates a 2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser was traveling eastbound on Highway 202 (Nehalem Highway) when it lost control on a corner and crossed the centerline. The Chrysler collided with a westbound 2003 Dodge Pickup registered to the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife. According to witnesses it appeared the Chrysler had lost control on a corner before crossing the centerline.

The driver of the Chrysler, a sixteen year old female from Astoria, was pronounced deceased on scene. The driver of the Dodge, Brooks R VAN DEVELDER, age 36, of Astoria, was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released. VAN DEVELDER is an employee of the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife.

The roadway was closed for at least four hours for the investigation which is continuing. More information will be released when it is available.
