On October 18, 2015 at about 4:42pm, OSP Troopers and emergency personnel responded to the report of a single vehicle rollover crash on Highway 97 near milepost 230 (twenty miles north of Chiloquin).
Preliminary information indicates a 1969 Chevrolet Corvette was traveling northbound on Highway 97 when the operator attempted to pass slower traffic. The operator, Robert David JOHNSON, age 64, of Bend, lost control of the vehicle which exited the roadway. The Chevrolet rolled multiple times, ejecting JOHNSON. He was pronounced deceased on scene.
Highway 97 was closed approximately 30 minutes and reduced by one lane for several hours. Speed is being considered as a contributing factor.
This investigation is continuing. More information will be released when it becomes available. OSP was assisted on scene by Chiloquin Fire and Rescue, Klamath County Sheriff's Office and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
