On October 26, 2015 at about 7:30AM OSP Troopers and emergency personnel responded to the report of a vehicle versus deer on Highway 20 near milepost 96 (3 miles west of Sisters).
Preliminary information indicates a 2006 Cadillac Escalade was traveling westbound on Highway 20 when it a buck mule deer attempted to run across the highway. According to the driver, just prior to impact the deer jumped and crashed through her windshield. The driver was able to safely bring her vehicle to a stop.
The driver, Vona HUGGINS, age 79, of Terrebonne, received minor injuries and was transported to St Charles Medical Center in Redmond. The deer died from the collision. It is believed the deer's horns struck the steering wheel, stopping it from further entering the passenger compartment and preventing further injury to HUGGINS.
The public should be reminded October is peak time for deer migration in Oregon with the most deer versus vehicle collisions than any other month. Please the following ODOT link for further information: http://www.oregon.gov/ODOT/COMM/Pages/nr15100502.aspx
