On June 24, 2016 at about 7PM, OSP Troopers and emergency personnel responded to the report of a two vehicle head-on crash on Highway 18B near milepost 5 (just west of Sheridan).

Preliminary investigation revealed an eastbound 2001 Hyundai Elantra was making a pass in a no passing zone (in a corner) when it struck a westbound 2001 Hyundai Accent head-on. Both vehicles came to rest in the highway.

The driver of the Accent, Phil P WATKINS, age 61, of Willamina, OR, suffered life threatening injuries and was taken by air ambulance to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center. The driver of the Elantra, Timothy M MCCREADY, age 43, of Sheridan, was taken to Willamette Valley Medical Center in McMinnville for serious injuries. A passenger from each vehicle was taken to Salem Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Highway 18B was closed for four hours while the investigation was conducted. Alcohol is being considered as a contributing factor in the crash. OSP was assisted by the Yamhill County Sheriff's Office, Yamhill County District Attorney's Office, Amity Police, McMinnville Police, Sheridan Fire, West Valley Fire, Newberg Police and the Oregon Department of Transportation.

This is an ongoing investigation. More information will be released when available.
