Oregon State Police (OSP) is continuing the investigation into Saturday afternoon's single vehicle serious injury crash that occurred in a residential area west of Highway 31 about eight miles south of the Highway 97 junction. The driver's name is released in this update. Alcohol is being investigated as a contributing factor in this crash.

On August 10, 2013 at approximately 1:17 p.m., a 1981 Ford Bronco driven by JEFFREY RUTLEDGE, age 33, from LaPine, was traveling on Birchwood Road attempting to turn onto Sun Forest Drive when it left the roadway and crashed head-on into a tree. RUTLEDGE was transported by Crescent Rural Fire Protection District to a landing site where LifeFlight took the patient to St. Charles Medical Center in Bend. He was not using safety restraints and was seriously injured.

OSP Senior Trooper Tim Holbrook is the lead investigator. OSP was assisted at the scene by Klamath County Sheriff's Office, Deschutes County Sheriff's Office, and a US Forest Service law enforcement officer.
