On December 12, 2016 at approximately 1:15 PM, Oregon State Police troopers responded to a single vehicle fatal crash northbound on I-5 near milepost 80 in South Douglas County.
The preliminary investigation revealed a 2005 Lexus passenger car operated by Nancy J Meyen (age 86 from Beaverton) drifted off the roadway, struck a tree, and her vehicle started on fire. Meyen was removed from the vehicle by first responders before the vehicle was consumed by the fire. Meyer was pronounced deceased at the scene.
A medical condition or the possibility Meyen fell asleep,prior to leaving the roadway, are being considered as contributing factors to the crash .
Glendale fire and ODOT assisted on the scene. Several passerby's stopped to attempt to put out the fire and remove Meyen, from the vehicle, prior to EMT arrival.
