On January 31, 2017 at about 1:25pm, OSP Troopers were dispatched to a report of a male jumping in and out of traffic on Hwy 126 near milepost 11, which is 3 miles west of Mapleton in Lane County.
While responding to the call, a report came in of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle in the same area. Once on scene, Troopers determined the pedestrian had died as a result of his injuries. The description of the pedestrian matched the calls received earlier. The operator of the 2015 Dodge commercial van, 34 year old KALEY HEWITT of Independence, OR was not injured and is cooperating with the investigation.
The identity of the deceased male is unknown at this time and the investigation is ongoing.
OSP was assisted by Western Lane Ambulance, Siuslaw Fire Department and Oregon Department of Transportation.
