On June 7, 2017, at about 4:16 p.m., OSP Troopers and emergency personnel responded to the report of a single vehicle crash on Highway 242 near milepost 13.5 (about four miles north of Powers).
Preliminary investigation revealed a 1997 Nissan Pathfinder was traveling westbound when it drifted out of its lane of travel, crossed the oncoming lane and continued off the roadway, where it struck a tree. The driver, Richard Carl STARR, age 44, of Napa, California, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
OSP was assisted by Powers Police Department, Powers Ambulance, Myrtle Point Ambulance, Powers Fire Department and Oregon Department of Transportation. Napa California Police Department assisted with the next of kin notification and Mast Brothers Towing assisted with the recovery and towing efforts.
