One person was injured Monday morning following a traffic crash on Highway 201N at an intersection just outside of Ontario in Malheur County. Oregon State Police (OSP) is continuing the investigation and names are released in this update.
According to Lieutenant Mark Duncan, on December 16, 2013 at approximately 8:00 a.m., a 2007 Freightliner truck pulling two trailers driven by JAMES STEPHENS JR, age 38, from Fruitland, Idaho, was northbound on Highway 201N approaching the intersection with Washington Avenue. A 2013 Mazda sport utility vehicle driven by KELLY COOK, age 45, from La Grande, was westbound on Washington Avenue when it collided into the right side of the truck.
COOK was transported by ambulance to St. Alphonsus Medical Center in Ontario for treatment of injuries. STEPHENS was not injured.
OSP troopers from the Ontario Area Command office are continuing the investigation. OSP was assisted at the scene by Malheur County Sheriff's Office, Ontario Police Department, Ontario Fire & Rescue, Treasure Valley Paramedics, and ODOT.
The northbound lanes were blocked for one hour.
OSP and ODOT urges drivers to be alert and watchful for limited visibility conditions due to fog, and drive safely at all times.
