Eugene Man Arrested After Elude & Search in West Eugene

Oregon State Police (OSP), with the assistance of Eugene Police Department, arrested a suspect shortly after midnight on Monday following an elude in a stolen vehicle and an area search in west Eugene.

On January 5, 2014 at approximately 11:48 p.m., an OSP trooper attempted to stop a Toyota 4Runner displaying Oregon license plates for failing to stop for a red stop signal on Highway 99 at Roosevelt Boulevard. When the trooper activated the patrol car's emergency lights and siren, the driver failed to yield and attempted to elude as it continued through multiple stop lights and stop signs. The trooper terminated attempt to stop the vehicle as it turned south onto Acorn Park off W. 11th Avenue.

Approximately five minutes later, the trooper found the vehicle, which had been stolen earlier in the day in the Eugene area, abandoned on Buck Street at W. 13th Avenue.

At approximately 12:15 a.m., Eugene police found a person who matched the suspect driver's description about a half mile west of where the vehicle was located abandoned. Subsequent investigation led to the arrest of BRIAN KEVIN NUNLEY, age 42, from Eugene, who admitted to using methamphetamine before the incident. NUNLEY was lodged in the Lane County Jail on the following charges:

* Felony Attempt to Elude in a Vehicle
* Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle
* Unlawful Entry into a Motor Vehicle
* Unlawful Possession of a Motor Vehicle
* Theft in the First Degree
* Criminal Trespass in the First Degree
* DUII - Controlled Substance
* Reckless Driving
* Recklessly Endangering Another Person

He was also cited for Driving While Suspended.

The vehicle was released to its owner.
