Fatal Crash Hwy 213 and South Macksburg Road

Oregon State Police (OSP) is continuing the investigation into Friday morning's fatal crash on Highway 213 near Mulino that resulted in the death of a Molalla woman.

On January 31, 2014 at approximately 4:33 a.m., a 1987 Nissan pickup, operated by SOLEDAD CASTRO-MONTES, age 45, from Molalla, was northbound on Highway 213 near milepost 13 and was approaching South Macksburg Road. A 2004 Chevrolet pickup, operated by GARRY BEATTY, age 49, from Mulino was southbound on Highway 213 near the same location.

CASTRO-MONTES turned left and into the path of BEATTY'S pickup and the two vehicles crashed nearly head-on. CASTRO-MONTES sustained fatal injuries from the crash. BEATTY did not receive any injuries.

Both CASTRO-MONTES and BEATTY were wearing safety belts. The airbag in BEATTY'S pickup deployed. There was no air bag in CASTO-MONTES' vehicle.

OSP was assisted at the scene by ODOT, Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, and local fire and EMS. The highway was closed for about four hours during the investigation.
