Oregon State Police (OSP) will be referring several crimes against an unidentified adult female to the Lane County District Attorney's Office in relation to an early morning Attempt to Elude that ended in an injury crash in the Eugene area. The names of all involved will be released at a later time pending positive identification of the female driver.
On February 1, 2014 at 3:49 a.m., an OSP trooper stopped a 2000 Dodge SUV, operated by an unidentified female adult, for a traffic violation on Willow Creek Road in Eugene.
During the initial contact the female provided a false name and date of birth to the trooper. As the trooper was returning to the Dodge to make further inquiries the unidentified female driver accelerated away at a high rate of speed.
The OSP trooper kept the Dodge in sight but after a short time lost sight of it as the unidentified female driver was running red lights at numerous intersections. A short time later the trooper located the Dodge after it collided into a parked car and landed on its side in the 900 block of Welcome Way. The OSP trooper observed smoke coming from the Dodge and quickly broke out the rear window to assist the driver and two other occupants with exiting the vehicle.
The passengers in the vehicle were identified as a 29 year old male and a 31 year old male. Both male passengers were treated for minor injuries and left the scene on their own accord. The unidentified female driver was treated at the scene by OSP troopers for serious injuries until Eugene Fire Department arrived and took over care. The unidentified female driver was taken by ground ambulance to Sacred Hearth at RiverBend with serious injuries.
OSP troopers are still attempting to positively identify the female driver. The female is not cooperating with troopers as to her true identity.
At the request of OSP, Eugene Police Department is handling the crash investigation. Any media inquiries into the crash investigation should be referred to the Eugene Police Department.
The following crimes will be referred to the Lane County District Attorney's Office against the unidentified female driver: Felony Attempt to Elude (Vehicle), Reckless Driving, three counts of Reckless Endangering, 1st Degree Criminal Mischief, and Giving False Information to a Police Officer.
OSP was assisted during the incident by Eugene Police Department, Lane County Sheriff's Office, and the Eugene Fire Department.
