Oregon State Police (OSP) will be referring several crimes against a Veneta woman to the Lane County District Attorney's Office in relation to an early morning Attempt to Elude that ended in an injury crash in the Eugene area. The names of all involved are provided in this release.
On February 1, 2014 at 3:49 a.m., an OSP trooper stopped a 2000 Dodge SUV, operated by FELICIA THWEATT, age 28, from Veneta, for a traffic violation on Willow Creek Road in Eugene.
During the initial contact THWEATT provided a false name and date of birth to the trooper. As the trooper was returning to the Dodge to make further inquiries THWEATT accelerated away at a high rate of speed.
The OSP trooper kept the Dodge in sight but after a short time lost sight of it as THWEATT was running red lights at numerous intersections. A short time later the trooper located the Dodge after it collided into a parked car and landed on its side in the 900 block of Welcome Way. The OSP trooper observed smoke coming from the Dodge and quickly broke out the rear window to assist the driver and two other occupants with exiting the vehicle.
The passengers in the vehicle were identified as AARON NEW, age 29, from Springfield and LEVI STRIKE, age 31, from Eugene. Both NEW and STRIKE were treated for minor injuries and left the scene on their own accord. THWEATT was treated at the scene by OSP troopers for serious injuries until Eugene Fire Department arrived and took over care. THWEATT was taken by ground ambulance to Sacred Hearth at RiverBend with serious injuries.
At the request of OSP, Eugene Police Department is handling the crash investigation. Any media inquiries into the crash investigation should be referred to the Eugene Police Department.
The following crimes will be referred to the Lane County District Attorney's Office against THWEATT: Felony Attempt to Elude (Vehicle), Reckless Driving, three counts of Reckless Endangering, 1st Degree Criminal Mischief, and Giving False Information to a Police Officer. Once THWEATT was positively identified by OSP troopers they found that she had a warrant for Parole Violation. Additional charges may be considered by the District Attorney's Office.
OSP was assisted during the incident by Eugene Police Department, Lane County Sheriff's Office, and the Eugene Fire Department.
