On April 24, 2014 at approximately 1:10 a.m., the Canby Police Department attempted to stop a 1998 Audi A4 four door for traffic violations. The driver failed to yield and attempted to elude southbound on Highway 99E through several jurisdictions including the cities of Hubbard, Woodburn and Gervais. Speeds reportedly were 80 mph and faster. Officers from the local cities, Oregon State Police (OSP), and Marion County Sheriff's Office assisted as the car continued southbound.
Spikes strips were deployed by Gervais Police Department and then OSP at Highway 99E and Brooklake Road NE. The car continued southbound for a short distance until the driver failed to negotiate a left curve and crashed near Nevada Street into a power pole downing power lines.
At approximately 1:25 a.m., the driver fled on foot but was apprehended by a Marion County Sheriff's Office K-9 a short distance from the car.
The driver was evaluated at the scene by Marion County Fire Department medics before being transported by police from the scene. OSP is not aware if he was being lodged in Marion or Clackamas County jail.
Yellow tape was wrapped around the vehicle as it was left at the scene earlier this morning when OSP troopers cleared.
The power company was called to respond for repairs.
No other information to be provided by OSP.
