Two Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers, one from the La Grande Area Command office and the other from the North Plains Work Site, were recognized for their DUII enforcement efforts at the 2013 annual DUII Multi-Disciplinary Impaired Driving Training Conference held April 25 - 26 in Lincoln City. The Oregon DUII Multi-Disciplinary Training Task Force presented their annual awards of excellence to various organizations, groups, and individuals who made a significant contribution to deterring impaired driving in Oregon during 2013.
One of the awards was presented to an officer or supervisor active in DUII enforcement or the supervision of an active/innovative DUII enforcement team. The recipient is usually someone who is active in DUII enforcement or was instrumental in establishing, promoting, or supervising a unique or effective DUII enforcement program. The "DUII Enforcement Officer-of-the-Year" award is presented to a sworn police officer based upon nominations received for any law enforcement officer. This year, two of the 3 recipients honored were Oregon State Police Trooper Charles Rohlf (OSP La Grande Area Command) and Trooper Patrick Peltier (OSP North Plains Work Site).
Trooper Peltier, age 28, joined OSP in September 2009 and was responsible last year for 91 DUII arrests. During his four-year career, Peltier has demonstrated a passion for removing impaired drivers from our roads and worked to gain knowledge and expertise that he shares with his co-workers and law enforcement partners. He recently became a certified Standardized Field Sobriety Testing (SFST) instructor, provided refresher training at his office and for North Plains Police Department, and daily demonstrates his proficiency in the administration of SFSTs, the interpretation of tests conducted, and writes solid reports for prosecutors.
Off duty, Peltier is active in his local community. For the last two years he volunteered time as a "Big Brother" with Big Brothers Big Sisters Northwest, giving his time mentoring and making a positive impact on our youth.
"Trooper Peltier's professionalism, passion, dedication to enforcement and education, and deterrence of impaired drivers is to be commended," said OSP North Plains Work Site supervisor, Sergeant Jose Orosco.
