Oregon State Police (OSP) and Malheur County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) will team together this weekend in an effort to prevent crashes on area roads during the 55th annual Jordan Valley Big Loop Rodeo.

Starting Friday, May 16, through Sunday, March 18, 2014, additional OSP troopers will be patrolling on Highway 95 from the Idaho/Oregon border south to the Oregon/Nevada border. With a main focus on transportation safety, OSP troopers will target hazardous traffic violations and DUII drivers to keep the roads safe for travelers and those attending this year's rodeo.

OSP, MCSO and the Jordan Valley Rodeo Board recommend the following precautions to help everyone enjoy a safe weekend:

*Plan a safe way home before the festivities begin and designate a sober driver.
*If you see a drunk or dangerous driver on the road, contact your local law enforcement by calling 9-1-1 or 1-800-24-DRUNK. You could save a life.
*If you know someone who is about to drive or ride while impaired, take their keys and help make other arrangements to get them to where they are going safely.
* Always use safety restraints and child safety seats correctly.
