Two California men were arrested last Friday related an Oregon State Police (OSP) traffic stop following the discovery of over a pound of crystal methamphetamine in their vehicle and Springfield-area hotel room near the OSP office. An ongoing investigation by OSP Drug Enforcement Section detectives has reached a point allowing release of the arrest information.
According to Lieutenant Rob Edwards, on August 23, 2013 at approximately 5:10 p.m., an OSP trooper stopped a Mercedes sport utility vehicle displaying California license plates for traffic violations as it pulled into a Motel 6 parking lot near Gateway Street and International Way. Two occupants in the vehicle were later identified as driver ROBERT DEWAYNE LACEY, age 44, and passenger JOHN L. MIRANDA, age 45, both from Fresno, California.
During the initial course of the traffic stop, the trooper, with the assistance of an OSP drug detection canine, found approximately a half ounce of methamphetamine in the vehicle.
The investigation led troopers to a room at the Motel 6 where they found and seized over a pound of crystal methamphetamine, cash, stolen identification, and other evidence related the distribution of methamphetamine.
Both men were arrested and lodged in the Lane County Jail on the following charges:
LACEY
* Unlawful Possession & Distribution of a Controlled Substance - Methamphetamine
* Giving False Information to Police
* Possession of Fictitious Identification
* Identity Theft
* Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument
