The ongoing investigation by Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers into Wednesday afternoon's fatal traffic crash in southern Oregon along the northbound lanes of Interstate 5 near Wolf Creek indicates it may not have been a hit-and-run incident as originally reported.

According to Sergeant First Class Jeff Proulx, the driver of the involved commercial truck was contacted by an OSP trooper after the incident as he walked back after parking his damaged vehicle about a half mile north of the crash scene at a fueling station off Interstate 5. The driver was unaware someone died in the collision involving his truck and a parked pickup and trailer.

Updated information indicates on August 14, 2013 at approximately 1:07 p.m., a commercial truck and its driver was traveling on Interstate 5 near milepost 76 in the right northbound lane. A construction company employee working on a paving project stopped a pickup and arrow board trailer on the right shoulder with overhead caution lights and emergency flashers activated. Both northbound lanes were open. The employee was outside of the pickup breaking down a portable sign standing in the grass next to the guardrail on the opposite side of the freeway when struck. Emergency responders arrived on scene later and pronounced the person deceased.

One northbound lane of Interstate 5 at the scene is blocked during the investigation. OSP was assisted at the scene by ODOT and other local emergency responders.

No other information to be released at this time. An update news release will be sent when confirmed details are ready to be released.
